Written and Directed by Paul Goggin
Starring John Paul Sharp and Jeffrey Alan Bennett
Stand is a short film about a gay couple from the 80's. Bennett plays a drag queen who is shot and killed on stage and Sharp plays his berieved and grieving partner. It's a small, poignant look at a dark, tragic period for gay men.
What is so special for me about this film is that my friend Jeffrey is in it. The experience was totally bizarre, totally awkward and yet, it was a lot of fun too. I have known him since I was four years old and we are pretty much like brothers. All of a sudden, we'll playing gay lovers in front of all these young student filmmakers? Crazy!
This was not the first time for Jeffrey
to get into drag and certainly not the last! It's what makes him so endearing and unique as a nontraditional straight man. Eventually, he would come to own the role of The Bitch on May Big Phat Gay Musical.
Either way, it was a great opportunity for us to both be in an artistic film together and I'm proud of what we did. Hopefully, we'll get the opportunity to do something again!
